majestic swans

Walk past the entrance to the park, take the road down by the church instead. The entrance to the church is decorated with balloons in heart shapes, all red. It is February the fourteenth, Saint Valentines day. The day on which everybody goes silly sentimental with all those various symbols and things. A day for the very young, a day to express mutual attraction.

Down by the river, overlook the notice informing that masks are to worn. Angry eyes of other pedestrians flash out above their masks, it is all almost oriental. There is  wide variety in masks, the serious black ones, the minimal blue, and the various colourful ones, and those motorbike scarves which you pull up over your mouth and nose. The ones that you should not wear entering a bank.

Cross the river, the power station on the right. And then left, up along the bank.

There is a creaking noise to the left. Two swans have risen out of the water, and are slowly climbing into the sky, gaining height steadily.

They are majestic birds.

And they are the highlight of this walk
