ruminant traverse a minefield

clear the grounds out of the old filter on the Pavoni espresso machine, turn on the coffee grinder.
and when that is done with- put the grounds into the freshly-cleaned metal sieve.
Mount the filter assembly onto the machine, and wait for the light on the switch to go on.
A green glow.
Press the switch, and watch the coffee slowly pour out of the small spouts into the large cup.

The son is up now, he has his things ready for school, he is combing his hair and he is ready to go.
He comes over, a big embrace.

Read the news on the computer. America's behaviour leaves democracy questionable, when a whole huge state sees the remaining world as an antagonist.
This is terrifying now, it is like watching a ruminant traverse a minefield.

A noise outside the window, the passage of a crocodile of school children. Many young boys and girls, all chatting happily. At the end of the long thin group, three young girls abreast with their arms around their shoulders.
Followed by the last in the group, a boy in a brown sackcloth coloured jacket, slouching, despirited

They are out to an early start.
