The workers are all gathered under the trees. They are on their morning break, they are all drinking cups of coffee, some are eating a sandwich. Some years ago they would have all been drinking beer, but that seems to have gone out of style. They are recieving a pep talk from a man in office clothes and rubber boots. It is raining, and the light is dim under the trees.
Pass by after wishing them all a good morning. They had all stopped to look at the stranger approaching, maybe they had thought that it was somebody important. It was not.
Enjoy the appearance of all the soaked foliage, glistening in the soft dim light of the woods. The colours appear in a completely different contrast, it is nice, a little bit dramatic in a sinister sort of way. Further up the path, after the Devil's bridge, it becomes misty, adding to the strange atmosphere. Pick a few maple leaves for the birds in the enclosure at the top of the hill.
With the back to the fence hold up the leaves and start to make a selfie film with the enclosure in the background. Soon enough one of the birds comes up and starts to demolish the bunch of leaves. Wish the sister in law happy birthday, she is due to turn sixty soon. The bird has stopped snapping for the leaves and is instead now picking at the camera bag, in the hope that there is something to eat there.
The birds are rheas, or Nandu and come from Argentinia, and they like the German climate. They are about five feet tall, they are still small and young.
