passage of time

if the brain was mechanical it would be acceptable for it to hum, hiss, or to make high pitched whirring noises.
The brain is biological.

So wake to the light in the open summer window, open to let in the fresh air after the winter of sealed rooms and heating, yet there it is, that hiss, a steady noise.
Sometimes it will vanish in the sound of a shower bath, but mostly it is there, invisible from the outside, a steady nuisance.
There are worse things.

A biological hiss.

Get up, put on the clothes
Go to the kitchen.
It is Saturday, a day to relax from work on.
A day to try to get those things done that were not permitted during the last five days.

Seven days in the week,
Forty paid hours.

And an old electromechanical clock using gravity on a pendulum to keep a dial turning to show the passage of time.
