to lie down and to waste time

Monday is a day that is not worth talking about too much. The cat makes noises early in the morning, she wants food. Feed her some, and it does not take long before she wants some more of the same.

It is cold outside, but this does not matter.

In the late morning there is a telephone call from a dear friend in London. She is living in a care home there now. She seems in good spirits, which is good. Have a lovely long conversation with her.

It is still cold outside, the cat wants to be fed again. Cats have a very high-speed metabolism.

Go to the shops to get something to eat. There is no great wish to buy anything, the facilities for complex cooking are simply not available. There is no wish to spend the time for this sort of thing on a single person anyway. But there is no wish for ready-made meals either. These are either nasty or expensive.

Today is also a day where everybody seems to get in the way of everybody else. It is not just those consulting their mobile 'phones whilst walking, everybody seems to be anticipating everyone else's trajectory with less than the usual precision.

Have a roll with meat loaf at the butchers store. It is slightly tasty, and it is warm.

Return home to feed the complaining cat.

There is a sound of the front door opening and closing, the wife has returned from wherever she was over the weekend. After a short while the cat stands at the door to the passageway wanting to be let out. Let the cat out. She goes upstairs to the wife, she will get more food there.

It is now four in the afternoon, the next thing planned is to go to the artist's studio and make a second attempt to take a picture of that difficult piece. Being lazy today it would really be more pleasant to just go back to bed.

Drink a cup of coffee whilst writing these notes for today. Maybe this will serve to prevent a return to lying down and wasting time.
