euphemistic - reading room
19th SeptemberMake a cup of coffee in the desolate untidy
kitchen. Drink the cup at the big bare table in the living room. A worn
wooden table with a white cup upon it.
It is late, there is a doctors appointment
later, to collect a prescription, to get him
to look at the nose.manThe son leaves for school, at ten to
eight, the lucky young man, he has only
a five minute walk to school.Finish the coffee, and go down the stairs.
the cat follows, overtakes, and then comes
back up. she sits down on the stairs, and
looks, as the front door opens, and one
of her three humans goes.
The blue car is parked opposite to the
police station. There is a parking space there, reserved for residents. Wait till the
street is clear, and back out across the
road. take the side road by the little
church and the park.
Later, join the traffic on the main road and
move on slowly.
The doctors practice is ingo up the concrete stairs, down a
short corridor, press the button on
the door, and enter the practice. The
name given, the appointment checked,
and be waved on to the waiting
room; already full of the sick and the aged.
It is a waiting room, lives up to its name.
Start to write these notes, and continue to
write, even as people who arrived later
are dealt with earlier.
A man comes in, a man with a beer
belly, a red T-shirt, and fashionably ripped
jeans. He must be forty years old, and
cannot say goodbye to the dream of
being young.'Elderly women, carefully dressed,-
well kept, arthritic fingers, stroking their
hands..
A young woman in blue comes in,
gives the name, it is time to go.
