euphemistic - reading room

19th September

Make a cup of coffee in the desolate untidy kitchen. Drink the cup at the big bare table in the living room. A worn wooden table with a white cup upon it. It is late, there is a doctors appointment later, to collect a prescription, to get him to look at the nose.

The son leaves for school, at ten to eight, the lucky young man, he has only a five minute walk to school.

Finish the coffee, and go down the stairs. the cat follows, overtakes, and then comes back up. she sits down on the stairs, and looks, as the front door opens, and one of her three humans goes. The blue car is parked opposite to the police station. There is a parking space there, reserved for residents. Wait till the street is clear, and back out across the road. take the side road by the little church and the park. Later, join the traffic on the main road and move on slowly. go up the concrete stairs, down a short corridor, press the button on the door, and enter the practice. The name given, the appointment checked, and be waved on to the waiting room; already full of the sick and the aged. It is a waiting room, lives up to its name. Start to write these notes, and continue to write, even as people who arrived later are dealt with earlier. A man comes in, a man with a beer belly, a red T-shirt, and fashionably ripped jeans. He must be forty years old, and cannot say goodbye to the dream of being young.'

Elderly women, carefully dressed,- well kept, arthritic fingers, stroking their hands.. A young woman in blue comes in, gives the name, it is time to go.
