Awaken early, it is still dark. Wander about in the flat, go to the bathroom, look about in the kitchen. Then go buck to bed.
an hour later, there is the sound of the alarm date. silence it. press the appropriate spot on the screen. get up, go for a shower. The cat turns up, all fawning and friendly, then settles down on the bed.
- get dressed, leave the house.
At the end of the Theater street, at the town gate, see the man who feeds the birds. He has a crowd of ducks at his feet, and a flock of pigeons flying about his head. He is calling the birds with a poultry farmer's call. Upon looking at him more closely, realise that he is the same person who alway harangues Dolores at the bus shelter. He wears -a round baseball cap, with the peak turned backwards.
Say good morning to Dolores at the bus stop, say good morning to the smoking man with the bog cotton hair.
The river has flooded, the big flood gates on the opposite side of the river have been opened.
Count the change for the bus driver, it is all in copper and bronze today. Dolores and the duck man are talkin the bus shelter, the municipal office worker arrives. He always looks startled, for whatever reason...
after the short bus journey. go to the Yoma's cafe in the railway station. Recognised by the big bearded bald man on service duty, the coffee is practically ready before the order is placed. Let him stamp the discount card, nine stamps there now. Tomorrow the last one, then free coffee on Monday.
Take a seat in the waiting room, and during the five minute wait for the train, write the first few lines of these notes.
Today's wait on the platform is long, the train has been delayed for some reason. Pass the time observing the progress of the building works on the neighbouring platforms, number seven and eight, They are digging deep holes there, reinforcing the flanks of these with constructions of steel plate and various girders. Perhaps they will be installing a lift, or an escalator.
There are announcements for trains, announcements not normally heard for the trains that arrive in those minutes after the usual departure time of the Munich train. The slow train, six twelve, platform
three.the Passau train, six fifteen, platform five. The Prague express, delayed half an hour. A list of times, of failures and of changes.
Finally, when the Munich train does come in, it is a much shortened version of it's usual self. Those waiting people farther up the platform, hurry along, so as to be able to board at all, and those gathered at the doors waiting for them to open are aggressive in their fear that they may not be able to obtain seating
Upon boarding the train, find a seat wih no undue bother. The train is very much more full than it usually is.
At the next stop, at Moosburg, the train is so full that there is hard anyy standing room any more.
In fits and starts, the train crawls on towards Freising
