Drive the car through the tunnel under the hill, steadily, fifty kilometres an hour. That is one and a half kilometres of tunnel, well equipped with lights, cameras and emergency exits.

At the end of the tunnel turn left, behind a slow bus.

It is dark at this end of the tunnel too.

Follow the bus untill it leaves the main road at the end of town.

It is five forty five in the morning, there is not much traffic yet on this trunk road to Moosburg. The red tail lights of the car ahead vanish into the fog, the headlights of oncoming cars fuzzy and hazy, all with a halo glow around them.

Just drive on and on, the car ahead is closer now.

It stops at the roundabout, to let the one truck there pass. Drive around the roundabout, take the second exit.

Ahead, there are lights in the fog, there are other cars, the blue glare of the display lights of the all-night Aral petrol station.

And then turn right onto the motorway, speed is restricted here on account of the road works. Follow all the other cars, moving steadily through the foggy night just before dawn.
