earthwork noise

On a grey day in the office, there is so little to do because of the danger of spreading infections. It is hard to understand that they are everywhere, and the corridors are full of people not wearing masks who believe that the virus is gone.
The news is that it is not.

Outside, the steady noise of diggers, the motors driving the huge hydraulic arms, the clatter of the shovels on the stones. They are preparing the ground for yet another new building, moving away the topsoil, digging ditches.
It is all so fast.
After such a long period of inaction.
They are digging up the damp earth, the rain has prevented the dust that would usually rise.

And a clanging noise. That is from the gas bottles being moved by the man in charge of the gas bottles in the fenced off area in the asphalt-paved yard. They are all there, the bottles of oxygen, nitogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, helium, probably others too. All supplies for the scientists.

The trouble is that there is so little work, it is boring.
But it is good to have a job, there are enough people in the world who do not.
