slime

today is the day to go to work to make pictures of slime mould and to hand over some prints to a professor.

On the drive in to work the frame of the glasses gets caught in an inside pocket, and is broken. That is a pity, but that is how things go, things break and are then broken. A visit to the optocians will help, they are always so helpful.

And work is all it's usual dreariness, the place of work anyway. Sit at the same table, the telephone rings, there are some rolls of paper to be collected. They are the specialist artist paper, the heavy stuff.

And at nine, the professor who studies the physics of slime moulds arrives, explains, and later in her laboratory shows off the little treasures in their culture dishes. The moulds feed on oats, and they leave yellow trails in the jelly of the culture dishes. They are delightful little creatures, with all there little tubes and pseudo whateveryoumay thinkthatthey are things.  They are pale yellow in the blue jelly.

The professor says that they are to be disposed of in the house waste after having been photographed.

Feel sorry for them, lil' slimy creatures.
