homeward

 Woke-

awaken early, it was just past six, the brother apologising for having made noise, but it was not that.

He asked how the sleep was, and said the breathing in the night was heavy. What does that mean? The sleep was fine.

There is the sound of children getting ready to go to school downstairs, start to pack up the things ready to go. Nothing is left, hopefully .

The journey is slow and in the weather is rainy, quite unlike yesterday which had not a cloud in the sky. The big car groans and heaves around the corners, it is a huge machine.

And in three hours, home. There is no welcome there, but it is home. The wife is drinking her morning cup of coffee, the son has a cold, and the cat is happy to be petted.

Yesterdays exertions were more telling on the old body than had been imagined.
