old and grey

Slept in the back room of the shop downstairs today. it is still a shop without a purpose, perhaps a purpose will be found soon. Awakened in the dark, it was six in the morning. Went out into the front room, there was the cat sleeping on the couch. Stroked her head. She looked up lazily and went back to sleep. Went upstairs to have a shower. At least that was nice.

Fed the cat in the upstairs kitchen.

Downstairs again, changed from sleeping clothes to outside clothes. Made breakfast, three eggs and four slices of toast and a pot of coffee. Disregard the advice of those who want to live forever.

The cat becomes attentive, searching for attention and food.

Leave the house and go to the supermarket in the shopping mall at the other end of the main street.  Going there see that at this time the town is full of octogenarians, some in wheelchairs, some with wheeled walking aids and some with sticks. There are hardly any people under thirty in the street otherwise. Those few younger people wandering about seem to be out of work and grey faced. Some have crutches. This dystopia continues all the way to the mall. Where have all the younger people gone? The whole town seems filled with fugitives from youth.

Returning via the main market street see more of the same. There are hardly any children or younger people to be seen. Perhaps they are all at school or at work.

Maybe they are still asleep. A man with one eye and dog stares with the other one. A gaggle of grey haired bent backed people stand at the corner shouting about the weather. They are shouting because they do not hear well any more.

Walk back home with the tins of cat food. The cat is attentive again, so feed it in its upstairs dish in the slovenly kitchen, It is a shame. It is a nice room.

Downstairs, sweep the floor, and dismantle the flash system, and pack it away in readiness for the job tomorrow.
