The cat rolls over onto her back on the stone floor. Reach down and scratch her chest. Her front paws close over the stroking hand in a hard grip, the hind legs commence a scratching movement. The cat is playing at catching rats, causing her owner a scratch on the back of the hand, near to the finger knuckles. Finish putting on clothes, not many, for the day will be hot. Realise that the mobile telephone had not been charged during the night. there is barely twenty percent power on the tiny device.
Down the alley, then pass the church, cross tt market. then down to the town gate.
Hear a car approach over the cobbles from the rear. Ignore it, just walk on. Why jump around this early morning to avoid cars that should not be there, in the pedestrian zone of this small town.
Greet the usual people at the bus stop people whose proper names are not known, so Dolores, Bog Cotton man and municipal Man will have to do.
At the station, get the usual black coffee.
It is served in a fellow cardboard cup with blue logos printed upon it. A capital Y in solid script, and the word Yorma's over it in outline type, upper case.
The outside of the cup is riffled, to dissipate the heat from the contents and to save the fingers from being burnt.
