Just like that

The hot day yesterday ended with a sudden storm which toppled trees over the railway line between Landau and Dingolfing. This meant that train services were interrupted, and that at least one train full of passengers was stuck in Landau.

The people in the train had to wait. A family of Ukrainian refugees, a large group of people in Bavarian traditional dress with leather trousers and all, and a number of perfectly normal passengers. Speak to a young woman who works for the railway in the goods department, she says that she knew nothing, and was just travelling home to visit her boyfriend in Munich. There was an Indian gentleman on his way to Stuttgart, and many irritated people venting their fury on anyone who looked as if they might listen. The Turkish family running the snack bar in the railway station made a fortune selling overpriced snacks, and closed their shop when they ran out of stock, leaving the people waiting for busses to stand in the rain. It was dark, but it was warm.

Finally, a stranger approached and offered a lift to Landshut.

Just like that.
