by comparison

ta da tick, ta da tick, ta da tick.
the sound of the little ratchets on the Brillie clock.
The whirr of the Sinn watch amplified by the thin wooden window sill, like a vibrating string on a sounding board.

Get up from the seat in the sitting room after reading some of the sad news of the world. Go to the bedroom, put on the watch. Go back to the kitchen, put coffee into the grinder. Put a slice of bread into the toaster. And then put some of the ground coffee into the sieve of the coffee maker. Go to the living room, get the cup from the table, bring it back to the kitchen and place it under the machine.
Press the switch and wait. When finished, press the switch again.
Put butter and finely sliced sausage onto the fresh toast from the toaster.

Take the coffee and the toast over to the living room table.
A sort of breakfast.
Write these notes.

Then the son gets up, gets out of bed.
Then the wife gets up, and concerns herself with the coffee machine, watch her through the door from the sitting room.

And talk to the wife for a while
Then the son and the wife start to argue about computers, and cleanliness, and the neccessity of tidying up the room.

Think of the walk up the hills yesterday, the alpine landscape, crags and green, the Berchtesgaden mountains.
That was peaceful, by comparison.
