flightless

Sunday, 4th October
The Top of the park was reached with only
one stop to sit and catch
heath. This may
be a sign of the acute breathing problems

Up at the top of the park, the children
are friendly, say hello. The parents are
grownups.
In the small zoo at the
top of the hill there
are four young ostriches, or Rheas, or
Kiwis, who knows. They seem to be young
birds, flightless and they are all grey.
Still, they are taller than most of the
children
feeding them.
Find an apple that has not gone bad
yet under the apple tree, and cut pieces
out of it.. Feed these to these birds. They
have long beaks, but they cannot really bite.
When one takes hold of a finger, a mistake,
this does not hurt. It does not even pinch.
A peck might be different.
But the birds are not big yet, and they
are still young, fluffy and nervous.
