 To tidy the chaos.Sift through the items, sort them piece by piece. Get rid of those bits of paper that will never be used, and get rid of the bills for telephone calls at work that are now long forgotten. Clean the drawers  of the document cabinet one by one. Use soap and hot water, and watch the water go black. Perhaps this cabinet had never been cleaned inside.

Sort all the things, then move the copying stand out to the cabinet, assemble it piece by piece, and clean it too. Use an oily rag to get the moving parts to move smoothly again. Now the machine is standing there again, and works perfectly. It has just changed rooms.

Start to arrange all the small parts in the cabinet, so that a tidy workplace can be made.

Take breaks to read the news, and to eat an ice cream.

Take a package to the post office in the supermarket, that will get that out of the way. It does not matter that it will only be collected on Monday, the item is out of sight and out of mind.

It is a pleasure to put things back into order, to arrange things and to plan the work that will be possible with all the newly arranged items. All it really is is housekeeping.
