The Saturday meeting is in one quarter of an hour, and it is time to leave the house. That regular Saturday meeting has taken place since the exhibition of the pictures from the neutron source. It is an attempt to pick up contacts to try and gain some work, doing things for other people and maybe even recovering the costs for the materials.
Look into the gallery on the way, the two owners are there sitting side by side with a narrow table between them. Comment that this would be a worthwhile picture, but they show their 'phone, it has been done already. Next week they will need somebody to take care of the gallery, and that should not be a problem, not at all.
Across the yard between the houses there is the café, run by men from Croatia. They make good coffee. Sit there drinking coffee and talking shop. Listen to the people at the next table talk slop. No that is not nice, but it is the usual gossipy conversation about others in their absence. Continue talking shop and drink two cups of coffee.
And then the meeting is over, the architect and the property owner did not arrive. The property owner has just turned into a grandfather, and his daughter is probably keeping him busy with the grandchild.
Walk about town, the whole atmosphere is miserable now.
It will be a despairing evening.
