 The son will sit for his third examination today. These exams are the end of is schooldays and the beginning of his adult life, where he must decide for himself. It will be his decision to go to university or to learn a trade.

Or he can do both if he wants.

The sound of electronic alarms starts an hour early today. Not realising this, get up and go to the bathroom in the dark. After the finishing of the business there realise that it is five in the morning. This must be a measure of the son's worries, that he set his alarm clock so early.

Stay awake and make breakfast, there is no point in going back to bed.

The cat is missing, wonder where it is.

After breakfast, and the reading of the news, and a short time wondering about the meaning of all this trouble. This trouble with the Russian activities in the Ukraine, the unnecessary loss of life, the brutality of it all. Also, there is concern over the Ukrainian government's attitude to the rest of Europe. The victimhood is not necessarily saintliness, and if it is, perhaps one should ask what religion is involved.

At six, check up on the son, he is awake. He asked for this service, as a safeguard against oversleeping.

Make up a second cup of coffee. In the meantime, realise that the cat has escaped from the house. This is a worry, for it is to be assumed that the cat is not capable of dealing with the outside world, it has no ideas as to the danger of traffic. But there is little choice but to wait for it to come back. Or perhaps one of the neighbours will explain its whereabouts.
