The cat has been fed and is nowhere to be seen

There is thunder outside, a rumbling from the middle distance, and it is raining in the dim light. Those caustic days of glaring sun are over. At the least, they are over for today. The sound of the rain outside hissing down on the rooftops is pleasant.

The day started at a very early hour with banging and crashing in the house that marked the wife's early shift. She has never learned to close doors using the handle, she just slams them, and should the automatic mechanism not work the first time, she slams it again. Perhaps the locks and latches will last a few years more, perhaps they will be broken tomorrow.

Breakfast was fine, for some reason it was all unusually tasty today.

The radio is playing some kind of Dixie.

The cat has been fed and is nowhere to be seen.

Today will be a day to try to get a few things done.
