There is no point in doing these things at all

 Today is the longest day of the year, it is light when upon awakening and it may still be light upon going to bed.

Start the day as usual, but make the mistake of muddling the blood pressure pills once again, take two of the one kind. Resolve to not take any of the other kind, what will happen will become apparent during the day.

The steps are dirty and dusty, take the small vacuum cleaner from downstairs and clean the steps, and then go over them again from top to bottom with the mop. They are cleaner now. Not that this will make any difference, but there is no point in being upset about all of the other things that need doing in the house.

There is no point in doing these things at all.

Now it is nearly eleven, and the sun is shining with great strength, the air is still and the sky is almost completely clear of clouds.

It is hot, and the height of the summer will be hotter.
